CGS 1555 - Introduction to the Internet

Course Description:

An introductory course designed to teach the basics of navigating the Internet and the World Wide Web. Students participate in online and offline activities such as accessing the Internet, sending electronic mail, browsing newsgroups, and completing research activities. Also discussed is Internetequette--acceptable behaviors and standards of conduct.

Prerequisites:

No prerequisites are required, but computer literacy skills are recommended.

Course Objectives:

  1. Describe and navigate the Internet and World Wide Web.

  2. Send and receive electronic mail
  3. Create HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) documents.
  4. Understand and use the various Internet tools, including TCP/IP, Gopher, Telnet, FTP, Archie, and World Wide Web Browsers
  5. Describe the basic types of Internet connections.
  6. Describe the guidelines for conduct on the Internet
