Course Outline Model:
COP 1812 Introduction to XML Authoring
(3 Credit Hours)

Course Description:

This course teaches students how to use XML to create customized tags for web pages and to work effectively with XML. Students will develop Web sites integrating XML into their projects.

Prerequisites:

COP 2822 Scripting for the Web and COP 1000 Programming Logic or permission of instructor

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Understand how XML is applied to Web pages.
2. Apply XML to Web pages.
3. Understand cascading syle sheets (CSS) and how to integrate XML.
4. Create markup with XML.
5. Understand document type definition (DTD).
6. Understand the document object model (DOM).
7. Determine when XML is appropriate for a project.
8. Develop a web site using XML and CSS.
